A few recommendations for a Fall reading list

Dear Husband and I have just finished a few books, and we’ve got some recommendations for a Fall reading list. As you can imagine, our recs are pretty divergent!

Of the Two California Sisters, Kate is definitely the reader of books. I tend to consume a lot of podcasts and news articles (and I’ve always got recommendations for those!) But when I come across a good, absorbing book, I’ve got to share it with everyone. And Dear Husband, who always has a book in hand before bed, is adding on his recent favorites too.

This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone and Amal El-Mohtar

This book was strange and wonderful. Set in the future, two “beings” get to know each other over the course of letters and communications over time and place. It’s not too long, and I think the “out of place and time” aspect makes it perfect for a trip. It’s the kind of book that will stick with you long after you’ve finished it.

The collaboration between the two authors is also quite interesting and worth a watch after you’ve finished the book.

No More Champagne: Churchill and His Money by David Lough

Dear Husband claims this is one of the best books he’s read about Churchill and his life (and he’s read a lot!) Although I haven’t read it yet, given my interest in personal finance, I need to add it to my own Fall reading list. It is kind of amazing how poorly Churchill managed and the level of financial stress he was experiencing during some pretty big moments in history.

Life after Life by Kate Atkinson

Another time travel related book- seems to be a theme with me these days! A young woman repeatedly lives and dies the same life over and over again- and you see her make different (sometimes better) decisions with each life. As I get older, the idea of revisiting the past and doing things differently is more appealing! The book also takes place over WWII, making it a complementary part of these three books.

I also just learned that there’s another book in the series– I haven’t read it yet but it’s on my Fall reading list! I hope you found something to interest you in our recommendations….
