Could this be the best hotel in Dallas?

I’m a pretty picky hotel customer. I like my hotels to be quiet and well-designed. I like a good hotel gym. And I was pretty sure it was going to be hard to top the Heathrow airport Hilton. But now I’m pretty sure that I’ve found this best hotel in Dallas- and it’s a real winner!

Cooper Aerobics

I won’t leave you hanging… the best hotel in Dallas just might be the Cooper Hotel at the Cooper Clinic. It’s not a huge hotel, and I think it was originally set up for guests at the Cooper Clinic. But an ordinary person like you or me can book it-and it’s a real winner if you are anything like me.

Cooper Hotel
Lots of wildlife on the property

It’s quiet

No one is checking into the Cooper Clinic with the intentions of partying it up. It’s off the radar for most people, and there’s no nightlife on the property. Or honestly in the area… the Cooper Hotel is in a very residential area. So very few people are stumbling back to their rooms intoxicated and ready to party. It actually makes me laugh to even think of it!

Cooper Hotel
My room…spacious and very quiet

It’s got an awesome gym

It reminds me of the gym attached to the Houstonian gym in (you guessed it) Houston. A really fancy gym that people pay lots of money to join- and as a guest of the hotel, you can use it for free. It has the latest equipment and lots of it. And the lockerooms are amazing.

There’s even a great cafe right in the gyn
Tennis courts… and presumably pickle ball too

There are TWO lap pools

I am not a fan of fighting for a space in a lap pool. It actually causes me a fair bit of stress upon arriving at my gym. Will the pool be full? Will the Masters people be hogging up all the lanes? Well have no concerns at the pools at the Cooper Clinic. Plus the hotel has one pool where hotel guests have first dibs on the lanes. I swam twice in the 48 hours I was there.

It’s a great location

Kate and I grew up in the area- what used to be called “North Dallas” but is probably closer to “South Dallas” these days, given how much the city is growing northward. The best hotel in Dallas, the Cooper Hotel, is right smack dab in the area where I grew up and that I know the best. There are tons of restaurants, grocery stores, shops- all within a few minutes of the hotel.

And I’m intrigued by the idea of the Cooper Clinic services

It seems like the Cooper Clinic, right next door to the hotel, is doing something very similar to what Peter Attia is promoting. They offer comprehensive one-day physicals that take a holistic approach to your health. I scoured the website for pricing, couldn’t find it. The closest I found was a range of $2000-3000 (and that was 10 years ago.) So without picking up the phone, let’s guess that it’s $4000-5000 these days.

Cooper Clinic

It’s not cheap, but if you are struggling with putting together all the elements of a detailed assessment of your health and risk identification, it might be worth it. Right now I’m doing the DIY version- but I won’t lie, the Cooper Hotel experience is making me consider it.

And one tip

Book through a third party- not directly with the hotel. I know, I know, in this case, ignore all the advice. I saved 30% booking through Chase Travel. (and got some bonus points along the way) But other third parties like Hotels.com etc. offered the same discount. So sorry Cooper Hotel- you need to reconsider your pricing strategy.

Otherwise, I’m staying at the Cooper Hotel on my next trip to Dallas. Which hopefully won’t be soon, because I only seem to return to Dallas for sad reasons…which is a whole other story!
