More Sondheim musicals- this time in Rohnert Park

Dear Husband loves anything by Stephen Sondheim. Early in our relationship, he took me to see all the musicals. I think it was a test! If I could survive seeing “Passion” (oh my gosh is it depressing!), then perhaps I was worth marrying? 🙂 For a while, Sophie was Dear Husband’s Sondheim partner, but with her absence, I’ve stepped in. And this time, we headed to Rohnert Park to see “A Little Night Music.”

You may recall my plea for everyone to toughen up a bit-prompted by the trigger warnings and excessive masking requirements at “Assassins” last month. I am pleased to report that the Sondheim community heard my arguments- and masks were not required! Or perhaps the good people of Rohnert Park are just more sensible?

Celebrating the removal of my mask!

Rohnert Park has a quite nice community center and theater. It was worth the drive from the East Bay to see some more Sondheim!

Dinner at Marin Joe’s

Rohnert Park is a medium sized town in Sonoma County. It seems like a nice place to live and raise a family- but the restaurant scene is not great. So when the musical was finished, we headed to Corte Madera to Marin Joe’s for dinner.

Marin Joe’s serves pretty traditional seafood and meat in a retro setting. Normally I am fine with that. But I’d probably not choose to go back- the food was OK, quite expensive, and there was a strange vibe when we requested a table. Clearly the restaurant caters to a lot of regulars, and I think we definitely got bumped by some locals as we waited for a seat.

Still, it was a fine afternoon with Dear Husband. And the tour of more Sondheim isn’t yet complete! We’ve got “Merrily We Roll Along” coming up in April- followed by “Into the Woods” this summer. Just as long as I don’t have to see “Passion” again!
