A few last minute Mother’s Day present ideas

This time of year is a busy one for a lot of moms. Trust me on this! April and May in a normal school year can be crazy; for the mom of a high school senior, it’s pretty much over the top. So a lot of moms out there, who need to buy presents for their own moms, might be surprised to learn that it’s Mother’s Day on May 8th. This post is for everyone searching for a last minute Mother’s Day present idea. No judgment here!

Spotted at CVS this week…please don’t get this for your mom!

We’ve got less than a week until Mother’s Day, so I’m relying on Amazon to source these last minute Mother’s Day present ideas. But if you feel like venturing out to the mall, give that a try too. (Once you do, you will realize that we have well and truly put the pandemic behind us- the stores are packed!)

Sprucing up the house

Wow, we’ve spent a lot of time at home recently. So there’s no better time to take a look around and consider upgrading a few things. In my case, that includes plants and the home office.

ZZ plant in a cute container

I love a ZZ plant- they are pretty much impossible to kill. And this one comes in an adorable container (no need to replant it- Moms do not want to replant, trust me!) and it’s cheap at $26.

And ZZ plants remind me of being in Cabo… which is never a bad thing!

Rifle Paper floral file folders

It feels like the home office has gotten quite a workout over the past two years. Between working from home, college applications, and just general life organization, I’ve never spent so much time in this little space in my life. And I am pretty sure that the Mom in your life feels exactly the same way! So why not spruce up the space with a few upgrades? In my case, I am tired, so tired, of looking at boring (and tattered) manila folders. These pretty folders make me happy every day.

Kohler soap dispenser replacement

This one is super boring- but so satisfying. The soap dispenser at our kitchen sink started acting up around the time of the first mask mandate ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’ve just been living with it- but no more! I’ve replaced it and I’m never looking back.

I bet your Mom has something similar on her to-do list. Pay attention to the things she is grumbling about under her breath, and do her a huge favor by fixing them!

Sprucing up myself ๐Ÿ™‚

Two years on Zoom have made me accept that I need to embrace my current state. Gone are the years of beautifully young skin and tight jawlines. But with age comes wisdom, so I am diving head first into some quirky choices that are right in line with current Amy.

Oversized reading glasses

These suckers are big. And I love them! I’ve fully embraced my Iris Apfel life stage ๐Ÿ™‚ These glasses make a statement on that Zoom call. Yes, I’m older, yes, I’ve a bit eccentric. But I know my stuff!

NARS Red Dragon matte lip pencil

Like Iris, I have also adopted the “bold lip” look. To be honest, I first noticed this on “Call My Agent!” a French show on Netflix. At a formal party in the final episode of the second season, the main character Andrea wears a plain black outfit- her only concession to the event is a very bold red lip. So French! With my oversized glasses and my red lips, I definitely make a statement on Zoom, and elsewhere.

Women’s Long sleeve swim tee UPF 50

Alas, one must also be practical. So in my search for great last minute Mother’s Day present ideas, I am wrapping up with something that’s not super exciting. But it is useful. I love swimming. But after comments from Dear Husband about how tan I’ve been getting, I knew I needed a solution. Enter this swim tee- it may slow me down (but I wasn’t that fast to begin with!) But I will think of him every time to put it on…

And that might be the best gift a Mom can get- it will remind her of the person she loves!
