Checking out a new restaurant in Los Olivos

As you know from my previous post, one of our favorite restaurants is SY Kitchen in Santa Ynez.  The owners of SYK recently opened a new restaurant called Nella’s Kitchen and Bar in the heart of Los Olivos. Naturally, we had to try it out. We are single-handedly trying to keep the Central Coast restaurant industry alive!

Nella’s was only doing dinner service when we went (and it looks like they are closed right now, due to the current shutdown.) So we made the 45 minute drive from Santa Barbara one recent evening for dinner.  Apparently they will be serving lunch at some point, and it will be great stop for lunch to break up a day of wine tasting in the area. We are always excited when there is a new restaurant in Los Olivos!

Los Olivos is a very cute little town but it has been taken over by wine tasting rooms. You can even take the public bus from Santa Barbara here to taste for the day! They have not had a great selection of restaurants so a new one opening is a big deal!

The restaurant is the first floor of the Fess Parker Inn, and luckily for the restaurant, the space already has a great front and back patio. It works perfectly for outdoor dining during COVID times.  The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, and I can imagine myself sitting at the bar with a gin and tonic. Alas, that is for another time!

Nella's menu

The restaurant specializes in pinsa, which are roman style flatbreads. We love pizza in this family, so we had to try them out. We also enjoyed the mussels, the burrata with leeks.

SY Kitchen remains our favorite restaurant, but Nella’s is a great addition to the growing Los Olivos restaurant scene.
