Fall fashion inspiration from my favorite YouTubers

As my favorite season kicks off, I’ve been looking for ways to refresh my wardrobe. And I’m doing my best to keep in mind a couple of my goals- sustainable fashion and minimizing returns. That’s led me to discover a few really excellent women on YouTube who dispense terrific Fall fashion inspiration.

Here are five of my current favorite fashion influencers on YouTube. You will notice a few themes- they are all focused on modern classics and big on comfort. They promote using what’s in your closet (good advice!) rather than shopping, shopping, shopping. That said, they all put links to the clothes they wear in their notes. Of course, that’s how they make money! But in all fairness, they provide links to high and low end options, so you don’t necessarily have to buy the Chanel dad sandals– there are less expensive options out there!

Emma Hill

For me, Emma is the OG fashion inspiration- I immediately gravitated to her love of neutrals (lots of black!), oversized, comfortable clothing. And I don’t hate her lovely British accent either! Her closet switchovers are really motivating- I am using her approach this season to kick off the Fall properly. And she’s always spot-on with the “transitional” outfits- which is pretty much what Fall is for those of us in California!

Lydia Tomlinson

I don’t always agree with Lydia’s fashion picks (she is about 25 years younger than I am, after all!) But she and I share a love for neutrals and classics. And her styling tips are practical and helpful- I feel a lot more modern when I adopt her approach to dressing. I’m not quite ready to throw in the towel with Chico’s quite yet 🙂

The video below is a great example of Lydia’s very down-to-earth approach. What could be more useful than advice on how to wear black pants??

Christina Mychas

I like Christina because she does tend to skew a little more minimalist and she definitely brings more budget-awareness to her discussions of clothing and shopping. She managed to pay off a lot of student loans, but she also loves fashion. So she brings a very thoughtful approach to how she spends every dollar. I wouldn’t say my style is all that similar to hers, but she has a great philosophy that I appreciate.

Alyssa Beltempo

Alyssa is a new discovery for me in terms of Fall fashion inspiration. She brings a very European, chic approach to dressing- she’s sort of what I wish I could be if I were a lot thinner and a lot cooler 🙂 Still, I like her focus on shopping your closet and trying different silhouettes. I credit her with my trying out belts- yes, belts!- for the first time in probably 15 years. Progress is being made, folks!

Neelam Ahooja

Finally, Neelam. She is a The Row superfan. (If you aren’t familiar with The Row, start here. And prepare your wallet!) She does a bunch of quick videos of what she’s wearing every day, plus deeper dives like the ones below. She’s in her 50s (who else can afford The Row??) and she is endlessly inspirational. I also love how she promotes buying secondhand. And do keep in mind that resellers like The RealReal do pretty decent trade in used The Row. The prices are slightly more approachable….

So these wonderful women are where I am starting for Fall fashion inspiration. How are you keeping modern and fresh (or not!) this Fall?
