Heads up fellow science nerds! You’ll love the Brian Cox world tour

Update for June 2022: Dear Husband and I made it to the Brian Cox show last night, and it was terrific! Although the Bay Area shows are done, there are still plenty of tour dates left- just check out the link below.

Brian Cox show at the Golden Gate Theater in San Francisco

Dinner at Tadichs

First though, we needed to eat! Before the show, we stopped for an early dinner at Tadich Bar & Grill. It was wonderful to see the restaurant bustling and busy. They have brought back their full menu too- much better than the 5-6 entrees they had during the pandemic. Let me warn you though! The prices are scary high. My jaw dropped when I saw the price of crab cakes, my go-to order. $46! So bring money, lots of money 🙂

We walked from Tadichs to the Golden Gate Theater along Market Street. I was a bit wary- but the walk was very pleasant. The streets were very clean- I think I saw one homeless person the entire 25 minute walk.

Theater goers, you can do better!

If anything was annoying, it was my fellow audience members! The Golden Gate Theater allows visitors to bring drinks and snacks into the theater- you can even have them delivered to your seat. It was enormously distracting to hear the clattering of wine bottles and rustle of bags of popcorn and snacks around me. One person even dropped (and shattered a wine glass) in the middle of the show- prompting Brian Cox to mention it during the show!

See those stickers on the back of the seats? They allow you to order food and drinks at your seat during the show and they are an abomination.

Apparently the Golden Gate Theater also allows people to come and go throughout the show. Dear Husband and I were rolling our eyes as people asked us to step out of the row so they could enter late (20 minutes in), get up to go to the bathroom, get up to do who knows what.

I guess COVID has made me a grump- or my fellow theater goers really need to relearn the lessons of living in polite society. People, you can do better!!

Back in March 2022, this is what I had to say:

I am a big time science nerd. And I am particularly interested in space and how to find meaning during this brief time we will be on earth. So I was thrilled to hear that the Horizons: A 21st Century Space Odyssey show from Professor Brian Cox in San Francisco is coming this spring. Now’s the time to buy tickets for Brian Cox in San Francisco (and elsewhere!)

Who is Brian Cox? He’s an English physicist who’s working to educate the public about science and the universe. He’s had a number of shows in the past, but this will be the first one for me and Sophie. I am really interested in immersive theater and experiences (more to come on this topic soon!) so I happily ordered tickets for Brian Cox in San Francisco earlier this week.

What is this show going to be like?

The buzz seems to be good about the show, which is described as the following:

“Horizons takes us on a dazzling cinematic journey.
A story of how we came to be and what we can become. Using state-of-the-art LED screen technology, Arenas will be filled with images of far-away galaxies, alien worlds, supermassive black holes and a time before the Big Bang. What is the nature of space and time? Why does the Universe exist? How did life begin, how rare might it be and what is the significance of life in the Cosmos?

What does it mean to live a small, finite life in a vast, eternal Universe?

The deepest of questions will be explored using the latest advances in our understanding of quantum theory, black holes, biology, planetary science, astronomy and cosmology.

Horizons is a celebration of our civilisation, of our music, art, philosophy and science; an optimistic vision of our future if we continue to explore Nature with humility and to value ourselves and our fellow human beings.”

So who knows! But I am all for new experiences. And some optimism! And I wanted to give you all a heads up, in case you are too. There are dates available all over the world through 2022. Check it out. I will be sure to report back after I’ve seen Brian Cox in San Francisco in a few months.
