Three reasons why November is the best month in the Bay Area

Y’all, it’s finally November! The month I’ve been looking forward to all year. Because November is THE best month in the Bay Area. It’s true! And I’m going to share three reasons why it’s the best…if you are planning a trip in the future, I’d encourage you to consider doing it in November.

Reason #1: The weather

We are blessed with great weather (almost) year round in the Bay Area. It’s a large part of why we all pay so much to live here. But November is simply over the top. Today is a great example- the morning started off at a brisk 48 degrees and it will warm up to 85 in late afternoon. We’ll wrap up the evening around 60. We’re going to get a little bit of everything today!

I mean, come on! Look at that blue sky!! November at its best…

And to top it off, we’re going to have the most glorious blue skies through most of the month. We may need some rain (desperately) but November is traditionally very dry. Not great for the drought situation, but great for those of us who like hiking, running, lounging outside.

While other parts of the country are getting ready for winter, it’s still shorts (plus perhaps a cashmere sweater!) weather in the Bay Area.

Reason #2: The food

November is the ideal overlap between late summer and fall in terms of what’s available at the Farmers’ Market. You know how much I love the Moraga Farmers’ Market! I just returned this morning with a bag of the last of the heirloom tomatoes and a bag of apples- see what I mean??

Perhaps the last of the summer tomatoes… in November. You can bet that I am going to enjoy every last bite.

For those of us who cook, this really is the best time for produce and other items. And on top of it, we’re starting to see lots of holiday items at the store and some great deals on holiday baking ingredients, etc. So there’s no reason not to bust out your slow cooker, your baking pans, and your braised. Take advantage of all the deliciousness!

Almond croissants seem autumnal, and they are damn good 🙂

Reason #3: The landscape, the light, the colors

I absolutely love my walks with Cheddar in November. I mentioned those blue skies above- well, they bask our lovely trees and grasses in a gorgeous light. The colors of the trees are remarkable. That feeling of warmth with a hint of crispness in the air makes November the best month in the Bay Area.

Not much to say about this, other than- November is wonderful

And although every November I remember that it’s my favorite month, I don’t always take advantage of it. I spend too much time indoors, I wish it away so we can get to Thanksgiving week and some time off. Not this year! I’ve made a pledge to truly relish the month of November this year. Life is short- this year has certainly shown us that repeatedly. I pledge to do something to celebrate November in the Bay Area every day of this glorious month.

What’s your favorite month? How do you plan to celebrate November, wherever you may be located?
