A few new things for Spring

I’m still on my mindful spending journey. But I will admit it-I’ve picked up a few new things for Spring. And each one ticks a couple of boxes for me. First of all, they are inexpensive! And second, they will make my life easier or healthier. They might give you a few ideas too…

blood pressure cuff

I have to note that my Amazon shopping hack seems to be working; I’ve saved some money this year over my usual Amazon spending. A reminder: I’m allowed to pop whatever strikes my fancy into my cart. But I am only allowed to hit “Buy” twice a month. This gives me time to think “Do I REALLY need more fountain pen ink?” (The answer is no.) And as a result, I get one or two packages from Amazon every two weeks- filled with very useful items! Such as…

Blood pressure cuff

I know, not the most exciting thing. But when I got my blood pressure taken at a recent doctor’s appointment, I didn’t love the circumstances. And I think the results reflected that. The room was so warm. I had been rushed in by the nurse. I fumbled to get my jacket and my sweater off so she could access my upper arm. And I had just been weighed! My mental and physical state was a bit heightened.

After reading about how important it is to keep our blood pressure below certain levels, I wanted to figure out what my real blood pressure is. And this involves taking an average of 2 weeks of readings, while consistent variables. So I remove my shirt, sit quietly for 5 min, put the cuff above on, and log the result. And it’s a lot lower than what I got in the doctor’s office.

Whey protein powder

My recent DEXA scan has me rethinking a lot of things- including how much protein I eat. This protein powder is a winner. It doesn’t taste like anything, it has no added sugar, and it actually makes milk taste more creamy. All for 14g of protein per serving.

Artificial turf rake

This seems like an oddball, random item. But honestly, it gives me so much pleasure! Since we installed artificial turf in the backyard, it’s been plagued by mulch bits and leaves. With all the recent storms in the Bay Area, the situation has gotten beyond my ability to pick up the little individual pieces. Enter this rake: it doesn’t snag the turf, it rakes the mulch and bits, and tad-da! Tidy yard! It’s one of my favorite new things for Spring.

Aerolopa

This isn’t something you can buy from Amazon. It’s even better, because it’s completely free! Aerolopa is the next generation of plane seat plans- much better than my old favorite, Seat Guru. The family is traveling a lot over the rest of 2023, and this handy website is helping me grab the best seats. Flight prices are so expensive- at least we can get decent seats!
