Really special scarves from En Soie in Zurich

I wonder if I am going to kick myself for going public on this. But here goes..En Soie sells the most gorgeous, really special scarves from a tiny store in Zurich, Switzerland. And although I should probably keep my En Soie scarf as my own little secret, I’m spilling the beans in the name of blogging 🙂 I seem to be on a kick for small, independent shops, and En Soie is no different.

A little history with En Soie…

I first discovered En Soie in a very peculiar way. I was an assistant buyer for accessories, including scarves, jewelry, and lingerie at the now-defunct Galeries Lafayette store in NYC. It was located in Trump Tower (yes Trump and Ivanka did a walk through on opening day). It closed in 1994 (don’t do the math!) and was eventually replaced by a Nike superstore. But when it existed, for a brief 2 years, we sold some amazing European products that you really couldn’t find in the US. Princesse Tam Tam lingerie, Dim stockings, Wolford– now you can find all these brands online, but back in the early 1990s, they were a special and rare treat.

Amuse bouche*: wireless bras for staying home

I must admit that writing about my preferences in wireless bras for staying home feels a little weird… it must be my pretty buttoned-up Texas upbringing rearing its head. We don’t talk about such things in polite company! 🙂 I am sure that both my grandmothers would be blushing and shaking their heads in disappointment.

Well, sorry to both my Grannies, but we’re 6+ months into WFH and semi-sheltering-in-place, and I’m not wearing those comfortable underwire bras anymore! It doesn’t really make sense to wear them when most of the time, I’m sporting athleisure. And luckily, I don’t seem to be alone in this sentiment.

Amuse bouche*: summer pajamas

I am a pajama girl.  Living in Santa Barbara, it never gets too cold or too hot, so I have two styles – shorts and pants.  I want to share my two sources for comfortable and stylish summer pajamas.

  1. Garnet Hill – these PJs look comfy and they are, and I frequently recommend them (as I did to Amy recently.) I have the short version for warm nights and the capri pant version for the harsh winters in SB!  They wash well and are not too expensive plus they are often on sale.  They change the patterns quite often.
  2. UGG – I used to work for the company that owns UGG which gave me an incredible discount on these jersey pajamas but I would buy them again even without the discount!  There are short versions and capri pant versions.  The material is very soft and comfy.

Amuse Bouche*: beach cover-ups

wearing a beach cover-up at Hotel Hana Maui
In Hawaii, a long, long time ago. I think the beach cover-up I’m wearing was from J. Crew. Very tropical!

Cute pool and beach cover-ups can be hard to find, and when you do find one you like, it can be crazy expensive. So here’s a tip for you: Matches Fashion is having a great sale on beach cover-ups (along with everything else). Some things are 80% off!

Packing the essentials for an easy beach vacation

Packing for a beach vacation doesn’t seem like a controversial topic, but these days the very idea of going on vacation seems risky and potentially out-of-bounds for some people. At the same time, you want to make sure you have everything you’ll need- so you don’t have to buy things once you get there.

Just discovered this free stock photography. What do you think? This is NOT where we are staying 🙂

Don’t get me wrong; we have been lucky to take a few trips this summer. We’ve spent a few days in Carmel, Santa Barbara and Ojai over the past 6 weeks. It has been wonderful to get out of the house with my family to see friends and new places.

I can always find something to spend money on …

The doggies are Lolly and Zoe. The benefits of buying custom art!

I may not have been spending much on gas, eating out, or travel for the last few months, but somehow I still find a way to spend money! Everyone deserves a few treats during a pandemic.
