Dear Husband and I are doing our best to distract ourselves from our empty nester status. And part of that means doing some new things- well, mainly new things that I organize and drag Dear Husband to! And recently I surprised him with an evening of Silent Disco in San Francisco. It was really fun!
I’ve actually organized a few surprise activities for Dear Husband recently. Alas, my track record has not been great. He was not a fan of The Burnt City in London. But I got a solid thumbs up on Silent Disco in San Francisco- so I thought I’d share the idea with all of you.
What is Silent Disco?
Basically, you get a set of headphones that allows you to listen to one of a number of different dance music channels. At the Silent Disco event that we attended, there were three channels- R&B, 80s, and EDM. I loved all three. Dear Husband stuck to the 80s channel. No surprise there 🙂
Silent Disco is popular at clubs, events, even weddings- there are no noise complaints from neighbors, or the need to turn off the music at some specific time. Plus everyone can choose a favorite channel. And turn the volume down (or off) if you need a break.
We attended a Silent Disco event at Pier 23 in San Francisco. They have a good outdoor space, perfect for the crowd. Speaking of the crowd, it was quite diverse. The age range was really wide, and I didn’t feel out of place at all. Although, San Francisco being San Francisco, I wish I had brought a jacket!
Upsides of Silent Disco
- It starts (and ends) early! (at least it did for our event). 6-9pm. Perfect for this 50-something empty nester 🙂
- It was cheap! I bought early bird tickets about 2 months ahead and it was $5 each. I defy you to find a less expensive event these days! And of course, it warms my heart to be rewarded for being a planner
- Everyone can choose their own music. It’s kind of the point of Silent Disco…
Where to find Silent Disco events in your area
You an easily find info on upcoming Silent Disco in San Francisco (and elsewhere) by googling it- I have found that Eventbrite seems to be the best place to start. I’d also check out Quiet Events, which organized the event we attended. I will definitely try it again- maybe next time with dear Sophie!
