Five great things about the St. Regis Punta Mita

We recently had took a quick trip to the St. Regis hotel in Punta Mita, Mexico. It was a wonderful chance to spend time with Sophie before her busy summer starts. A dear friend recommended the hotel, and she was right on point with her recommendation (thank you dear friend, you know who you are!) And there were in particular five great things about the St. Regis Punta Mita that you need to know about.

The view from our room

Eating dinner on the beach

We tried to eat most dinners on the beach, starting with our first dinner at Mita Mary at the hotel. There was a band playing Cuban lounge music and right after dinner, they set up a fire pit with all the stuff for smores. So it was the perfect way to start off our vacation.

Eating near the beach is pretty much the norm in Punta Mita- and why not? You’re on vacation!

Beachfront hotel rooms

Maybe this is a theme- just enjoying being on the beach! And I recognize that it is a real splurge to reserve a beachfront hotel room. We don’t do it often. But it was one of the great things about the St. Regis Punta Mita, to be honest. And there’s a few elements I want to highlight:

Beachfront patio

We sat on the beachfront patio in the morning and for dinner one evening. You gotta soak up every minute in a room this expensive 🙂

Outdoor shower

We enjoyed using the outdoor shower every day (Sophie and I would love an outdoor shower here at home- Dear Husband is not so keen!)

Room service

It’s becoming a bit of a family tradition to do one night of room service on every vacation. Particularly when we are staying someplace fancy like the St. Regis. We eat on the patio (or in bed!) and talk, watch TV and just relax. It feels completely luxurious. And the St. Regis did not disappoint- the food was wonderful. The guy who delivered it even put the dessert in the mini bar so it would stay cool. Love that!

Coffee in the hotel lobby every morning before the gym

One of the consequences of being the first to bed every night is that I am frequently the first one up too! And at home, I have a very regimented morning routine. I really enjoy it, so I don’t mind doing something similar on vacation- but with a twist. And in the case of the St. Regis, it meant getting a lovely coffee in the lobby while journaling as the sun rose. Followed by a workout in the usually empty hotel gym. It’s really the perfect way to start the day!

The gym at the St. Regis Punta Mita is really great too. Lots of machines, lots of free weights and 2 Peloton bikes. And there were maybe 3 other people there, max, during the mornings I used it. Most of the time, it was me and perhaps Dear Husband.

Great toiletries!

Traveling can be tough for women- we have a fair amount of toiletries that we have to lug around. I usually end up sacrificing one thing or another; there is only so much you can fit in that clear plastic bag for TSA. So I was delighted to see that one of the great things about the St. Regis is the very high quality toiletries in the room. There were big pump bottles of herbal body wash, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Bars of soap too, just in case. And my favorite- this wonderful Ren facial wash that Sophie and I plan on ordering now that we’re home.

Ren Rosa Centifolia Cleanser

And at the pools, there were sunscreen options for SPF 15, 30 and 50. All extremely welcome since we couldn’t bring much with us under 3oz.

Splurging on one group activity

One of the great things about the St. Regis Punta Mita is that there’s not a ton to do, other than relax, enjoy the beach, and spend time with family. But there does seem to be some consensus that a visit to the UNESCO-designated Marietas Islands is a must-do. So we splashed out for a private boat trip early one morning. It wasn’t cheap! But there were some upsides to the expense:

  • We had the guide all to ourselves, so we could ask lots of questions
  • They picked us up on the beach at the St. Regis and returned us to the same spot, avoiding a ride into Puerta Vallarta to catch a group tour
  • We got to the Hidden Beach early enough that we were the first and only ones there for a bit- before the other tourists arrived

As I get older, I start to think hard about how and when I am spending money. In this case, I asked myself when I would be back to Punta Mita (probably never) and when would I next get a chance to spend this time with my family (it will probably be Christmas, if I’m lucky.) And to be honest, none of us were drinking on this trip- so we saved a fortune on margaritas 🙂

Definitely recommend the St. Regis Punta Mita

We had a great time as a family at the St. Regis, and I’m sure you will too. I haven’t even told you about the butler service-something I never thought I’d use. But shout out to Fabian and Jorge for answering all my questions, making dinner reservations, and taking lovely care of us during our entire stay. Highly recommended!
