We are entering the peak farmers’ market season in Northern California. And one of the first signs is the arrival of the cherries at the Moraga Farmers’ Market. I like to stop by the local farmers’ markets at least every few weeks. But in the summer, I try to make it a weekly stop- especially the Sunday Moraga Farmers’ Market.
Dear Husband loves cherries; they are his favorite fruit. So I am always keeping track of the very brief cherry season window. And we are smack dab in the middle of it right now. I picked up two big baskets of cherries for his snacking over the next week.
Cherries at the Moraga Farmers’ Market are a big draw for people across Lamorinda. And by the time I got there at 10:30am, the crowd was bustling and the parking lot was close to full. There isn’t really a place to eat, so people were sprawled out on the sidewalk eating crepes, burritos and various pastries.
I am making halibut and roasted vegetables on the grill for dinner- so I stopped by the seafood stand.
I also picked up some bread at Crispian Bakery. Oh my gosh, their baguettes are really the best. While I’m trying to focus on eating protein, I can’t resist a big chunk of baguette with peanut butter.
Sophie wasn’t with me for this visit to the Moraga Farmers’ Market- but if she were, I know she’d stop for macaroons at the Pastry Box truck.
I also love checking out the flower selection every week; it changes with the seasons. They make the most beautiful bouquets if you ask for one.
See what I mean about entering peak season? Just looking at these photos of vegetables makes me feel so lucky to live here.
Finally, I can’t neglect to mention that although it’s strawberry season in California from March-December, there really is nothing like a strawberry in June.
