It’s cherry season at the Moraga Farmers’ Market!

We are entering the peak farmers’ market season in Northern California. And one of the first signs is the arrival of the cherries at the Moraga Farmers’ Market. I like to stop by the local farmers’ markets at least every few weeks. But in the summer, I try to make it a weekly stop- especially the Sunday Moraga Farmers’ Market.

The best picks at East Bay winter farmers markets

We are so lucky to live in a part of the world that has access to terrific produce all year round. And while I love a visit to the farmers market in spring, the East Bay winter farmers markets are pretty wonderful. As we are all kicking off a new year and various attempts to eat healthier, perhaps this post will inspire you.

A mid-winter visit to the Moraga Farmers’ Market

I really enjoy comparing the offerings at the Moraga Farmers’ Market throughout the seasons. Not only does it inspire me to cook more seasonally, there are actually some bargains to be had, compared to the nearby Safeway. And it’s fun to see the same vendors week after week. Luckily it was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the 60s. I always feel bad for them on the occasional rainy days. It must be miserable to be out there for hours and see fewer customers to boot.

Because California is amazing, we’re starting to get the first strawberries of the season in. There will be a steady stream of them until December 🙂

Fall at the Moraga Farmers’ Market is the best time of year

I never used to go to the Moraga Farmers’ Market very often until the pandemic. Perhaps it’s one of the upsides of this crazy time; the weekly trip has become part of our routine. During the lockdowns, getting out of the house, in a fairly safe way, seeing other people- all these elements made the weekly trip to the market beyond exciting.

And even though things are getting (sort of?) back to normal, Sophie and I still head over most Sunday mornings. And after our trip today, I am here to proclaim that Fall at the Moraga Farmers’ Market is the best!

Hooray for spring at the Moraga Farmers’ Market

Last weekend, I stopped by the Moraga Farmers’ Market to check out the latest in-season fruits and veggies. I love watching the transitions between the seasons at our local markets. And it’s such fun to see the switchover from late winter to spring at the Moraga Farmers’ Market.

I’ve noticed that since the pandemic entered our lives, the farmers’ markets have become more popular. Not just as a way to escape the questionable ventilation of Safeway, but it’s also a great way to shake up our routines. And it feels like the right thing to help the small vendors and farmers during this tough time. On top of that, the result is delicious- such fresh items, plus Thai food, a wonderful bakery and more.
