Some recent Fall fashion news (for those who care!)

We are well into the onslaught of Fall fashion, and there’s lots of interesting stuff coming out of the SS24 shows across the globe. For those who find such things interesting (that would NOT be Dear Husband), I’ve got a few bits of fashion news to keep you in the know.

Mark your calendars for Phoebe Philo

News flash: The former Celine designer’s first solo collection (hotly anticipated) will be released on October 30th. I am already expecting it to be 1) beautiful, 2) craveable, and 3) obscenely expensive! So count me out, for now. Let’s see how those January sales look! And of course, there is some good Phoebe Philo-era Celine items on TRR and other resale sites. Perhaps start there for a taste of what’s to come.

I think she started the whole sneakers with trousers look? But she certainly made it popular. And it’s something you and I can do right now, without spending a dime 🙂

You can register on her website to get more updates. I just received the email announcing the launch date, and I am looking forward to how the fashionistas will be analyzing it for clues.

Allison Bornstein’s book release

I wasn’t really familiar with Allison Bornstein (or so I thought) until I read the WSJ article about her book. And then there was the mention of the “Three Word Method” for defining your style. Which really took over the fashion world for a brief time, with lots of celebrities sharing their 3 words. (Mine are: neutral, luxurious, and comfortable, in case you were wondering!)

Ms. Bornstein has written a book and I picked up this week. My quick review is that there are some practical tactics in there- like how to edit your closet. But it was way too heavy on the emotional aspects of getting dressed and selecting what to wear. A lot of people have significant amounts of emotional baggage associated with their clothing, apparently. Not to dismiss that at all! But for whatever reason, the book didn’t resonate with me for exactly that reason.

And a quick recap of the “best” Fall fashion trends

There are so many good Fall fashion trends this year- very wearable clothing with only a few crazy trends for the prudent amongst us to avoid. Here are a few things I am really liking this season:

  • Grey everything
  • White/ivory shoes (perhaps not practical in the snow and rain, but great for those of us in California! I ordered these)
  • Midi skirts (I love the look of the mini skirts but they are not warm enough and I’m over 50- yeah, that’s a no-go, despite all the squats in my life!)
  • Headbands- love the look but worried about getting a headache. Avoid the plastic ones and go for padded fabric ones- that’s my advice
  • Pops of red- goes so nicely with all that grey
  • RTO clothing. What a bummer. But still, I suppose we could all do with not wearing joggers to the office

And of course, you don’t have to pay full price for any of this. There’s lots of good stuff on TRR and the inevitable October sales will start any day now (we’re already seeing some Friends & Family sales right now.)

Check out the do’s and don’ts for men

This recent article from GQ on the do’s and don’ts for men had some great insights for us gals as well. Well worth a read- and maybe find a few ideas for the men in your life.

What’s on your list for Fall? Any great buys you’ve made so far??
