‘Tis the season to order advent calendars

If September is Planner Season, then October is decidedly Advent Calendar Season. And I am here for it! I love how creative people have gotten with new varieties of advent calendars. And because they range (quite a bit) in price, you might be able to afford to splurge on a few advent calendars.

Food Advent Calendars

The OG advent calendar, right? You’ll have plenty to choose from if you want a tasty treat every day before Christmas. I’ve been seeing lots of the Vosges Haut Chocolate Advent Calendar on IG- and it’s $300. I think we can do better?

  • Popcorn– Williams-Sonoma had 20 advent calendars listed online, but this popcorn calendar looked fun and relatively low calorie
  • Tea– a good price, great White Elephant gift
  • Cookie– How about a shortbread cookie every morning?
  • Jerky– From a store called “Man Crates” comes 24 days of jerky
  • Harry Potter Jelly Beans– kill two birds with one stone with this one

And my pick for the traditional chocolate one. A good balance between quality and price-the Toblerone calendar at $35. I do love a Toblerone!

Beauty Advent Calendars

This category is growing every year. I just googled it and there are dozens of them! The price range is huge-there’s a $49 Sephora version. And there’s a $500 Diptyque one. And everything in between.

I usually go for a $1 Trader Joe’s chocolate one- but this year, I’m trying something new….The Liberty of London advent calendar. Not cheap, but I am hoping it will allow me to try a few new scents- I’d like to try wearing perfume on the regular. We shall see! Plus I already know that December is going to be a rough month at work. Perhaps a little pick-me-up will be in order, each and every day.

Other tempting options include the Net-a-Porter advent calendar. And the Bloomies one looks good too!

But please don’t spoil the contents for me! I get it- people want to know what they are getting for the money. But doesn’t that take the fun out of it??

Pet Advent Calendars

Kate has been gifting Cheddar the Wufer Doggy Treat calendar for a few years now. And Cheddar loves it! We usually pair it with a cheap one from Trader Joe’s and it makes for a very happy puppy each morning in December.

But don’t worry- pretty much every company under the sun is making pet advent calendars these days. This one from Williams Sonoma is $100- which makes my Liberty of London one look like a bargain. (right??)

Novelty Advent Calendars

I would be remiss to my fountain pen peeps to not mention the Diamine fountain ink advent calendar. It’s $105-115 and you can pick up last year’s on Amazon for $137. Which seems a bit crazy. It’s colored water, y’all (and I’m someone who loves fountain pens!)

Here are some of the wackier advent calendars I found:

  • A fabric calendar
  • An underwear advent calendar (but only for the 12 days of Christmas. I guess you’ll have to do laundry after that!)
  • A whiskey calendar
  • And on and on…

Do you plan on picking up any advent calendars this year? Let me know in the comments!
