November 5th, 2021 is the 10th annual Fountain Pen Day, and I’m looking forward to celebrating it with all those other fountain pen lovers out there. As you may know, I’ve gone pretty deep into this hobby. Last year, I was vaguely aware of the celebration, but I didn’t really celebrate appropriately. This year is going to be different!
The source for all information related to Fountain Pen Day is, you guessed it, the official website. And there will be lots of social media coverage, I am sure, as people share their purchases and how they are celebrating. Here’s the list of all the sponsors with links to their deals for the day. (It is also a great recap of all the many online fountain pen shops out there…)
A lot of participating stores won’t be sharing the details until the big day on Friday, but here’s what you can expect, extrapolating from previous years… And although I love amazon as much as the next gal, this is a chance to support small businesses. So don’t pass it up!
Deals and discounts
You can expect above-normal discounts- for example, 15% off rather than the usual 10% coupons. And there will be some deals on specific pens, inks and other stationery. Pen Chalet, for example, will have a site-wide coupon code (I am guessing 15-20% off?) and it sounds like there will be some specific items with deep discounts. Just be careful that you are shopping prudently! It might be the time to pick up some stocking stuffers and perhaps a new notebook or two.
And if you have been waiting to pick up a 2022 planner, you may see some deals. It’s probably a good idea to do a bit of research on what you want now, rather than risk getting something that isn’t going to work for you.
Fountain Pen Day exclusives
VanNess Pens had an exclusive ink last year, so keep an eye out for something similar in 2021. You never know if it will sell out right away or not- it really depends how the community reacts to the color.
Giveaways and raffles seem to be pretty common as well. Pen Chalet’s giveaways are already up and running. Expect to see more later this week.
You don’t have to buy anything!
I must admit, there’s not a lot more that I need (ok, there is always more that I want- but that’s different :)) in the fountain pen/stationery world. So I am planning on celebrating Fountain Pen Day by using my pens (of course!) and doing a big clean-out. It’s not the most exciting thing, but it’s what you’ve got to do to take care of your collection. It will also give me a chance to re-ink a few pens with some new inks.
If you have been even a little bit curious about fountain pens, this is a great opportunity to dip your toe into the hobby. Or even just follow the #fountainpenday tag to check out the events on Insta etc.
Enjoy the day!
Why wasn’t National Ball Point Pen Day in June honored. Ball point pens are pens, too!
You are right! Next year, I promise to cover it! 🙂
