What is happening with the crazy prices of fashion these days??

Phoebe Philo dropped her first collection this week. And my first reaction was not “wow, how beautiful” but “OMG, look at the crazy prices of fashion!” And she’s not alone- several recent releases seem to be pushing the envelope for what people will pay.

I’ve got 3 ways to save some money

That’s such a click-baity title, isn’t it? But it’s true! I can sometimes be really grumpy and pessimistic about things. But I’m not always complaining, I promise. Sometimes I actually have some good news to share! And it’s all about ways to save some money.

Things to keep in mind about your favorite fashion influencers

We are in the middle of Fall shopping season. And if you, like me, have turned your attention to some online fashion influencers for guidance, there are a few things to keep in mind. While I love watching their videos and seeing what they are wearing this season, I have to remind myself of their reality vs. mine.

You might have forgotten about this stuff for your college child

College is starting back up! We sent Sophie back to Boston just this morning. And yes, she’s an old pro at this point, as a sophomore. But there are a few things that I forgot about- and you might have forgotten this stuff for your college child too!

Some things that are not worth spending a lot of money on

The new Fall season frequently means shopping. And there’s such a temptation to splurge on the best option-“buy once, cry once.” But there are things that are not worth spending much on. And I’ve been giving some thought to what those items are, for me.

Some advice for shopping the season’s sales

‘Tis the season for shopping the season’s sales. Before you know it, the stores will be inundated with new Fall clothes (just in time for 100 degree weather, of course!) I am not immune to the charms of a good deal. But I’m reminding myself of a few key tips as I browse the selections.

Because you have to know when to pick your battles.

A selection of some good tips I’ve come across recently

This post is a bit of a grab bag of helpful tips I’ve come across recently. Not much of a central theme- other than I found them all helpful. A couple are old ones that I love so much, I had to include them here 🙂

A good tip: Always get an ice cream (or two). I mean, duh.

Why creating a budget is key to retirement planning

I’ve been thinking a lot about retirement these days. (This seems to be true of most people I know in our 50s!) And a lot of attention is paid to The Number– how much you’ll need to retire. And frankly, these discussions irk me. Because they frequently rely on some heuristic. “You’ll need X times your salary.” “$1M is enough!” When, really, to be confident, you’ve got to put pen to paper. Because a budget is key to retirement success.
