We are so lucky to live in a part of the world that has access to terrific produce all year round. And while I love a visit to the farmers market in spring, the East Bay winter farmers markets are pretty wonderful. As we are all kicking off a new year and various attempts to eat healthier, perhaps this post will inspire you.
My two favorites East Bay winter farmers markets are in Moraga, my hometown, and the Diablo Valley farmers market, in nearby Walnut Creek. It has been a while since I’d visited the one in Walnut Creek, but it is really terrific. And the location couldn’t be better, while lots of free parking and some different vendors than what I’ve seen at the Moraga market.
Moraga Farmers Market
This market is held in the parking lot near the Moraga Safeway, rain or shine. Parking can be a little tricky, but it’s very conveniently located. And by being right near the grocery store, it’s easy to all the food shopping at one time.
I actually think it’s a little bigger and busier than the Diablo Valley market. And while there’s some vendor overlap, it’s not 100%.
Bread and pastries are always a good idea at the Moraga market. There are two bread vendors- Panorama Bakery from San Francisco and Crispian Bakery from Alameda. Both are excellent!

Diablo Valley Farmers Market
Although it’s a bit of a drive from Moraga, the convenience can’t be beat. It’s located in the parking lot of an office park in suburban Walnut Creek, down Ygnacio Valley Road. The parking is easy to find- I cannot imagine the lot getting filled up. And there are a few different vendors than Moraga. Plus it’s nice to have one open on Saturdays and one on Sundays- really no excuse not to make it there for some veggies and treats.
