Four ways to get ready for RTO-WFH hybrid life

I’m reposting this article from October… Looks like we are finally going back to the office this month (as are many of you.) I’ve updated some of my recommendations based on my preparations over the past couple of weeks. It’s a big transition and I’m doing my best to make it as easy and stress-free as possible!

Much to my dismay, I’ll be heading back to the office in the next few months. But luckily, I’ll be working from home at least 2-3 days a week. So as I start to get ready for RTO (return to office), I’m being thoughtful about what I can do now for my future hybrid life. Like most things in life, doing a bit in advance can really lower your stress.

Preparing for a great mental health day

Y’all, I am taking a mental health day next week. I don’t care that you absolutely must meet on Monday to discuss 2021 objectives or see where I am on a particular project. I have some PTO that’s about to expire, and I’m using it! 🙂

And if you are anything like me, you’ve taken a mental health day and ended up squandering it. Perhaps you filled the day with chores, or you frittered it away with aimless puttering. I’ve done both- and I’m determined to prepare and execute on a great mental health day. I want to go to bed on Monday evening, rested, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle those 2021 objectives!

All the props you need to get the most out of restorative yoga

A recent rediscovery for me has been restorative yoga. In the past month, I’ve realized how much I miss it. I like to do it after work. It helps me wind down my day and gives me some time to meditate. I want to share some yoga props you will need to get the most out of restorative yoga.

Enjoying our new Peloton bike

The whole family is really enjoying our new Peloton bike! Getting the bike has been a long time coming; I started using the digital-only app back in April 2019 primarily for cycling classes on the stationary bikes at my gym and some strength workouts here and there. In early April, when it became apparent that we wouldn’t be back in the gym for quite a while (note: the gym announced that it will close indefinitely until the surge is under control), we placed an order for the Peloton bike. Good thing that we didn’t wait, because it took over seven weeks for the bike to arrive after placing the order.

Trying new things during the pandemic

Around the third week of sheltering in place, I realized that we were going to be in this situation for a lot longer than I originally thought. And after a period of denial and trying to live as normally as possible, I gave myself permission to try some new things, to try doing things in a new way. I want to share what some of those things were and how it’s working out. I’ve given each one a thumbs up or down based on whether I recommend it or not.
